A mother who struggled with food addiction has lost a whopping 196 pounds in less than a year after giving up sugar and fasting for 20 hours a day.
Becca Scheer, 31, from Mechanicsville in Virginia, struggled with her weight while growing up and turned to food for comfort. At her heaviest, she weighed 357 pounds and was too large to get an exact reading on her scale.
‘I never learned how to cope with my emotions, so I spent years just shoving them down with food,’ the habit change coach said. ‘I think I did the best I could with the tools I had at the time.’
Before and after: Becca Scheer, 31, from Mechanicsville in Virginia, went from 357 pounds to 161 pounds in just over 11 months after transforming her diet
Hard to handle: The mother of three struggled with food addiction and used to eat 6,000 to 8,000 calories per day while gorging on fast food
Before her incredible transformation, Becca used to each between 6,000 and 8,000 calories a day.
For breakfast, she would chow down on four sausage and cheese muffins followed by a massive lunch consisting of three tacos, a pizza, two chicken quesadillas, and a large diet Pepsi from Taco Bell.
She would end the night two foot-long subs from Subway with buffalo chicken, extra cheese, and extra ranch for dinner.
‘I don’t look back in anger at myself,’ she said. ‘After all, me at my highest weight was the bada** that decided to get her life back together.’
Becca said her family and friends would constantly comment on her weight, often telling her: ‘You’re too pretty to be so big.’

Wake-up call: Becca hit her breaking point after attending a funeral for her cousin who died of a heroin overdose in April 2018 and realized food was like a drug to her
Struggle: ‘I wasn’t addicted to drugs, but food was my drug, and it was slowly killing me and taking me away from my husband and children,’ she explained
‘One time that stands out is when my grandmother looked at me and told me I would be pretty like my cousin if I lost weight,’ she recalled. ‘She followed up by saying she didn’t understand how my husband — then boyfriend — was so attractive and chose to be with me.’
Becca’s breaking point came in April 2018 when she attended a funeral for her cousin, who died from a heroin overdose. On the way home, she realized she was ‘too large’ to properly take care of herself in the restroom.
She feared that she would leave behind her husband Matt, 33, and their children Jax, eight, Chris, six, and Calvin, six, because of her own unhealthy lifestyle and decided she had enough.
‘I wasn’t addicted to drugs, but food was my drug, and it was slowly killing me and taking me away from my husband and children,’ she explained.
After the funeral, she started a 28-day sugar detox combined with a strict low-carb diet. As her eating habits began to change over the next three months, she transitioned to a high-fat, low-carb keto diet.

Meal plan: Becca now fasts for 20 hours a day and eats all of her meals in a four-hour window
‘I started listening to my body and ate when I was hungry. That led me to the fasting lifestyle I have now, which I love,’ she said, explaining that she fasts for 20 hours per day and eats all of her meals within a four-hour window.
Becca will usually skip breakfast and just have black coffee. For lunch, she eats six to eight buffalo wings with two bunches of broccoli.
A typical dinner is two salmon fillets, a whole zucchini, and a large spinach salad with strawberries, blueberries, goat cheese, and a vinaigrette dressing.
While fasting, she consumes about 1,900 calories per day and drinks three liters of water to ensure she stays hydrated.
Becca shed 196 pounds in just over 11 months, and she now weighs a healthy 161 pounds. She previously wore a size 24 dress but now buys a size 4 or 6, depending on the style.
‘It has completely changed my life. I now go out and enjoy life without worrying and stressing about fitting into booths, plane seats, or rollercoasters,’ she said.

‘I started my own personal coaching business to help others achieve the same freedom in their lives.’
Becca said ‘people are blown away’ by her transformation, but it’s not just her appearance that is different.
‘They’re always most impressed by how my spirit has changed — how much more outgoing I am,’ she noted.
‘My husband’s uncle didn’t even recognize me. He thought my husband had brought a date to an event that wasn’t me. We got a good laugh out of that.’
Becca advised that people who want to lose weight should ‘keep it simple.’
‘I found the best thing I ever did for myself was detox my body off sugar,’ she explained. ‘I no longer eat processed sugar, but I do eat fruits and natural honey.’
