Shopping Nova América is a commercial center in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the Del Castilho neighborhood. Strategically located, connected by a walkway to the subway station of Del Castilho and the Yellow Line.
Main source of entertainment and consumption in the North Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Shopping Nova América is, after its expansion in 2014, the largest multipurpose complex in the city with three commercial towers, three corporate floors, a gym and two hotels with more than 420 rooms. The complex also has four banks, a diagnostic and imaging clinic, a laboratory, a popular clinic, a lottery, a post office, aesthetic and well-being services and an amusement park.
A precursor, Nova América is a reference in the market thanks to its versatility over the years, without losing its original structure. Listed as a historical heritage, the mall preserves part of the facilities of the Companhia de Telas Nova América, which was deactivated in 1991 with traditional English bricks.
Another important difference is Rua do Rio, an open-air gastronomic area, with 17 bars and restaurants with the face of the bohemian region of the city. Rua do Rio was opened in 2002, seven years after its inauguration, being the first exclusive area dedicated to gastronomy in a shopping center in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
It has a campus of the Estácio de Sá University, a business center with 154 rooms, the “Espaço Cliente”, two food courts and more than 300 stores.
Nova América was elected, in the survey “Marcas dos cariocas” (a survey commissioned by the newspaper O Globo to Grupo Troiano de Branding), as one of the five main shopping centers that live in the heart of those who live in Rio de Janeiro.
Metrô Rio named the former Del Castilho Station as Nova América/Del Castilho Station.
History
In 1925, the Nova América fabric factory was born, closed in 1991. Its chimney remains on the land until today and in the memory of many residents of the northern area. In 1995, the factory gave way to Shopping Nova América, which started as an outlet (the first in Rio) and became a regional shopping mall in 2002. In October 2012, the project inaugurated a new phase: its second expansion, whose project in addition to bringing 130 more stores in 2013, includes real estate innovations for the second half – Nova América Offices, Nova América Corporate and a project of two hotels.
