A gut health expert has revealed the dirtiest items in your home that may be causing you to come down with an illness.
GI physiologist Jordan Haworth, from London, warned ’70 per cent’ of people aren’t cleaning their homes thoroughly enough as he detailed the top 10 things that harbor the most bacteria and could lead to long term health problems.
After researchers in a recent study by the Agriculture Department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service examined different areas in a kitchen to discover which spots hold the most germs, the scientist detailed the other spots that often go uncleaned.
He explained that falling ill even just once was enough to ‘leave you with life-long gut health problems like irritable bowel syndrome,’ before detailing the spaces in homes that often go uncleaned.
Captioning the viral video, which amassed over 1.4 million views, ’10 dirtiest things in your home,’ the health expert revealed how your light switch, TV remote, and even coffee machines could be the cause of your next cold.

Jordan began by warning his over 93,000,00 followers about the dangers the tenth most-germ filled item – shoes.
Showing a pair of Air Force Ones on screen, the doctor explained that nearly half of shoes carry bacteria known as Clostridioides difficile or C diff, which t can result in gastrointestinal symptoms, according to one study.
’45 per cent of the bottom of people shoes tested for C diff, which can cause severe diarrhea.
‘Doesn’t matter if your Air Force Ones are dusty or fresh. Always take your shoes off at the front door,’ he said.
Next up, the scientist crushed the hearts of microwave popcorn lovers as he revealed that your microwave is loaded with bacteria and urged viewers to begin wiping down the inside.
‘Okay I want you to go to your microwave right now and open it. If you have got any spill stains in there get it cleaned you filthy animal, [and] don’t forget the outside.
Microwaves can be filled with E. coli or salmonella, which can result in serious illnesses and gut issues.

He revealed that people often use dishcloths for multiple surfaces – including their tables, hands, and dishes – leaving them prone to developing germs.

The scientist suggested you give your fridge a deep clean once a month and said that in addition to your fridge, cutting boards harbor bacteria
However, he revealed that you can ‘start soaking [your dishcloths] in boiling water for around 15 minutes every week,’ to kill off any bacteria and to help avoid getting the sniffles.
Cutting boards came as no surprise to viewers, as they are listed as one of the dirtiest items in your home.

To remove the bacteria, you should double wash it.
This means washing it with soap and water and then throw it in the dishwasher to give it a second wash.
Jordan recommended using a different cutting board for your meat, for your poultry, and your fruits and vegetables.
‘Try to give your fridge a deep clean once a month, the gut health expert said before detailing why your fridge could loaded with bacteria.
‘Storing food properly is important. Start with ready to eat produce at the top and work your way down by cooking temperature,’ he explained.

And while you may have thought your morning cup of joe was safe, the gut health expert revealed that your coffee machine can be a ‘breeding ground’ for germs and mold.
‘Coffee makers, especially the reservoirs, can be a breeding ground for bacteria and mold.
‘Apparently you should flush the system with vinegar and always change the water before use,’ he told viewers.
In addition to dish cloths, Jordan revealed that bath towels also harbor icky germs.
He explained that using the same towel to dry your hands and showering is one of the worst things you could do.
‘Make sure you have got a separate towel for showering and washing your hands after the toilet,’ Jordan said.
As well as having multiple bath and dish towels, you should make sure to frequently wash your towels.
The Cleaning Institute recommends washing towels after three to five uses.

‘You might think that kisses from your dogs are cute, but their toys, bowls and poo are full of bacteria and they have probably had their face in all of them,’ Jordan explained
While watching TV may be your favorite post-work activity, the gut health expert noted that it can be a sickness-causing task
Both switches and doorknobs are the perfect places for bacteria to breed.
Switches hold around 217 bacteria per square inch, according to Lancaster General Health.
‘Be honest when was the last time you remember cleaning a light switch,’ the gut health expert said.
Next up, Jordan sent out a warning about your furry friends.
‘You might think that kisses from your dogs are cute, but their toys, bowls and poo are full of bacteria and they have probably had their face in all of them,’ he explained.
While it can be hard to resist a sweet kiss or snuggle session, pets aren’t known to be the most cleanly, so the gut health expert recommends you bathe them often and avoid getting too close.
While watching TV may be your favorite post-work activity, the gut health expert noted that it can be a sickness-causing task.
‘According to studies, there’s up to 20 times more bacteria on your TV remote than your toilet seat.
‘Think about how many times you have been scrolling through Netflix and then eaten something with the same hand. This is your sign to clean it now,’
