Norwich organic food firm’s crowdfunding bid

Norfolk organic vegetable and fruit producer and supplier Goodery is hoping to raise £10,000 to make their market garden ready to welcome the community and to host open days and regular learning sessions.

Christian entrepreneurs, former church youth worker Matthew St John and environmental scientist Joshua Smith took on the running of online food company Goodery two years ago with the aim of trying to care for both the planet and for people across Norfolk through an online organic vegetable and fruit box scheme they launched during the pandemic.

Last year they set up the Goodery Garden, a two acre, organic market garden in Bintree and now they have launched a online crowdfunding campaign where donations will be matched not only by Aviva but also by Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund, piotentially tripling any donations received.

Josh Smith, from Goodery, said: “We wanted to not only cultivate more local organic produce, and feed more of Norfolk with healthy, good food; we wanted to facilitate the growth and training of the next generation of organic growers here in East Anglia.

A year and a bit on and our Head Grower Jen has done an amazing job of  transforming the bare land to a verdant and productive garden. However, we believe the garden can be even more than a productive and sustainable market garden, that it can be a place where growers can learn skills and share knowledge; where the local community can experience sustainable food growing; and  where communities are reconnected to their source of food and to the soil.

“To achieve this we need to get the garden ready for the public, create teaching spaces, and create a fund for our growers to dedicate time to teaching and welcoming the community.”

If they raise their £10,000 target, this is how they might spend the money:
