They’re delicious and made with real fruit, gut-friendly gelatin, and absolutely no artificial colors or corn syrup! Like most kids, my children love fruit snacks! I usually make a batch of homemade fruit snacks once or twice a month so I have healthy snacks on hand. What I like most about making homemade fruit snacks is my kids really enjoy making them with me and it’s a great way to get gelatin into their diet. You may think it’s weird that I consider gelatin a “healthy” food. It is an animal by-product, made from the bones, skin and cartilage of animals. Sounds kind of gross, I get it! But before you disregard gelatin you should consider how it may be the superfood you need in your diet! 5 Potential health benefits of gelatin Gelatin has many potential health benefits and uses: Want beautiful skin, hair and nails? Eat collagen rich foods like gelatin! As you age your body produces less collagen. Collagen is what helps keep your skin tight and smooth, your hair healthy and your nails strong. Gelatin is rich in the amino acid proline, which is used to tighten and firm the skin. Collagen is often used in topical creams designed to reduce wrinkles, cellulite and to tone the skin. You can receive these benefits by consuming gelatin in soups, stews, smoothies, drinks and homemade fruit snacks! Gelatin helps to heal the gut. Bone broth and gelatin-rich foods play a huge role in several gut healing protocols like the GAPS diet and SCD diet. That’s because gelatin helps to fill holes and damaged areas of the stomach lining and reduces inflammation. Gelatin also increases the amount of gastric acid in the gut, which is needed to break down and digest protein. Healthy bones need collagen! When you think of healthy bones you may think of calcium instead of collagen, but what you may not know is that you need both calcium and collagen for strong-healthy bones. Gelatin from bone broth or Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin is the best way to get collagen into your body. Gelatin is great for your joints. It’s common knowledge that collagen is needed for healthy joints (the connective tissues in our joints are made up of collagen). According to this study athletes who took a collagen supplement experienced less pain in their joints and saw an increase in performance! Gelatin is a good source of protein. There’s a whopping 6-7 grams of protein in every tablespoon of gelatin. Gelatin peptides are water-soluble (which means they don’t gel up) and can easily be added to smoothies or protein shakes. A diet rich in high-quality protein helps to support a healthy metabolism and keeps you feeling fuller and satisfied longer than low quality meals. What kind of gelatin to use There are several different brands of gelatin out there. I believe It’s important to use gelatin made from healthy animals. I personally use Perfect Supplements gelatin because their gelatin is sourced from animals that are sustainably raised, grass-fed and pastured raised. It also helps that their gelatin is virtually tasteless! If you tried adding gelatin into your diet in the past and couldn’t get past the odd taste, you don’t have to worry about that with Perfect Supplements. I’ve added their Gelatin Peptides (cold water-soluble gelatin) into my coffee, juice and smoothies without noticing a hint of gelatin flavor. Vital Proteins gelatin containers are also BPA free and come with a convenient scoop (approximately 1 tablespoon). Ingredients & Equipment Gelatin : Perfect Supplements Grass-Fed Gelatin Flavors : Fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, organic fruit juice (not from concentrate), kombucha, natural calm, tea, coconut water, coconut milk, acerola powder(vitamin c), goji/pomegranate powder or dried fruit. Note: Some raw fruits like kiwi, mango, pineapple and papaya contain enzymes that break down gelatin and should not be used in these recipes. Add the gelatin to the coconut milk and let it soak for a minute or until it gels up. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of coconut milk in a saucepan on low heat. You want the coconut milk to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot coconut milk over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch Pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 2. Sleepy Time Fruit Snacks According to this study tart cherry juice enhances restfulness and promotes better sleep. Mixed with chamomile tea, gelatin and honey (all 3 help with relaxation and better sleep) these gummies are a great bedtime snack! This recipes makes approximately 1 cup of fruit snacks. Ingredients 1/2 cup of tart cherry juice 3 tablespoons of beef gelatin 1/2 cup of honey 1 cup brewed chamomile tea Directions In a small bowl mix 1/2 cup of tart cherry juice with gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the juice for a minute or until it gels up. Brew a fresh cup of organic chamomile tea. Steep for 3-5 minutes. Remove teabag and pour the hot tea over the gelatin mixture. Mix the ingredients together. Add the honey and mix until thoroughly combined. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 3. Kombucha Gummies Makes approximately 2 cups of gummies. Ingredients 2 cups of kombucha 3 tablespoons of raw honey or 1 teaspoon liquid stevia 6 tablespoons beef gelatin Directions In a small bowl mix 1 1/2 cups of kombucha with raw honey or stevia. Add 6 tablespoons of gelatin to the kombucha and let it soak for a minute or until it gels up. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of kombucha in a saucepan on low heat. You want the kombucha to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot kombucha over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Makes approximately 2 cups of fruit snacks. Ingredients 2 cups of fruit juice (I used orange) 4 teaspoons acerola powder 1/4 cup raw honey or natural sweetener of choice 6 tablespoons beef gelatin Directions In a small bowl mix 1 cup of juice with acerola powder and gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the juice for a minute or until it gels up. Heat remaining 1 cup of juice in a saucepan on low heat. You want the juice to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot juice over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the honey or natural sweetener of choice and mix until thoroughly combined. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 5. Goji Gummy Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 1 1/2 cups of fruit snacks. Ingredients 2 tablespoon of goji berry powder 1/4 cup of raw honey or 1 1/2 teaspoons of liquid stevia 1/2 cup water 5 tablespoons of beef gelatin 1 cup water Directions In a small bowl mix goji powder, beef gelatin and 1/2 cup of cold water together. Let the gelatin sit in the water for a minute or until it gels up. Heat 1 cup of water in a saucepan on low heat. You want the water to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot water over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the honey or stevia and mix until thoroughly combined. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 6. Fresh or Frozen Berry Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 2 1/2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 1 1/2 cups of fresh or frozen berries 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup raw honey or sweetener of choice 3 tablespoons beef gelatin 1/2 cup water, hot Directions Use a blender or food processor to blend the berries, honey, 1/2 cup water and gelatin together. Blend until berries are completely mush. Let the mixture soak for a minute or until it gels up. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of water in a saucepan on low heat. You want the water to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot water over the gelatin mixture. Carefully blend the mixture together for a few seconds. Pour mixture into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 7. Chocolate Gummy Snacks Makes approximately 1 cup. Ingredients 3 tablespoons beef gelatin 1/4 cup water 1 1/2 cups of soy free chocolate chips or homemade chocolate chips 3/4 cup water, hot Directions In a small bowl mix 1/4 cup of water with gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the water for a minute or until it gels up. Heat remaining 3/4 cup of water in a saucepan on low heat. You want the water to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot water over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the chocolate chips and mix until the chocolate is melted. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 8. Grape Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 2 cups of grape juice 6 tablespoons of honey or sweetener of choice 6 tablespoons beef gelatin Directions In a small bowl mix 1 cup of grape juice with gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the juice for a minute or until it gels up. Heat remaining 1 cup of grape juice in a saucepan on low heat. You want the juice to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot juice over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the honey or stevia and mix until thoroughly combined. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Ingredients 1/2 cup water 2 tablespoon raw honey 2 tablespoons of Natural Calm (I used raspberry lemon flavor) 1/2 cup water, hot 3 tablespoons of beef gelatin Directions In a small bowl mix beef gelatin and 1/2 cup of cold water together. Let the gelatin sit in the water for a minute or until it gels up. Heat 1/2 cup of water in a saucepan on low heat. You want the water to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot water over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Pour the natural calm and honey into mixture and stir until thoroughly combined. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 10. Piña Colada Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 1 1/2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 1 cup full fat coconut milk 1/4 cup raw honey or natural sweetener of choice 3 tablespoons beef gelatin 1/2 cup of crushed or pureed pineapple (not raw)* Directions In a small bowl mix 1/2 cup of coconut milk with raw honey and pineapple. *Raw pineapple contain enzymes that break down gelatin. Cooked pineapple should be used in this recipe. Add the gelatin to the coconut milk and let it soak for a minute or until it gels up. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of coconut milk in a saucepan on low heat. You want the coconut milk to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot coconut milk over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 11. Watermelon Flavored Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 4-5 cups of fresh watermelon, sliced 2-4 tablespoons of raw honey 6 tablespoons of beef gelatin Directions Blend the fresh watermelon in a blender or food processor. Strain the juice and seeds. You should have 2 – 2 1/2 cups of watermelon juice Mix 1 cup of watermelon juice with gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the water for a minute or until it gels up. Heat remaining 1 cup of watermelon juice in a saucepan on low heat. Pour the hot watermelon juice over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the honey and mix until thoroughly combined. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 12. Strawberries & Cream Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 1 1/2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 1 cup full fat coconut milk 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed 3 tablespoons of beef gelatin 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 tablespoons of raw honey or cane juice Directions In a small bowl mix 1/2 cup of coconut milk with pureed strawberries. Add the gelatin to the coconut milk and let it soak for a minute or until it gels up. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of coconut milk in a saucepan on low heat. You want the coconut milk to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot coconut milk over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the vanilla extract and raw honey to the batter. Mix well and pour into the molds or a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 13. Peaches & Cream Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 1 1/2 cups of homemade snacks. Ingredients 1 cup full fat coconut milk 1 cup peaches, pureed 3 tablespoons of beef gelatin 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons of raw honey or cane juice Directions In a small bowl mix 1/2 cup of coconut milk with pureed peaches. Add the gelatin to the coconut milk and let it soak for a minute or until it gels up. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of coconut milk in a saucepan on low heat. You want the coconut milk to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot coconut milk over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the vanilla extract and raw honey to the batter. Mix well and pour into the molds or a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 14. Sour Lemon Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 2 cups of lemon juice 6 tablespoons of honey or sweetener of choice 6 tablespoons beef gelatin Directions In a small bowl mix 1 cup of lemon juice with gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the juice for a minute or until it gels up. Heat remaining 1 cup of lemon juice in a saucepan on low heat. You want the juice to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot juice over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the honey or add the honey or sweetener of choice and mix until thoroughly combined. Strawberry Lemonade Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 2 1/2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 1 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries 3/4 cup water 1/4 cup lemon juice 3 tablespoons beef gelatin 1/2 cup water, hot 1/4 cup raw honey or sweetener of choice Directions Use a blender or food processor to blend the strawberries and water together. Strain the liquid and discard the pulp. Add lemon juice to the strawberry juice. Pour gelatin over strawberry lemon juice. Mix well. Let the mixture soak for a minute or until it gels up. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of water in a saucepan on low heat. You want the water to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot water over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Ingredients 2 cups of fresh blueberry juice 6 tablespoons of honey or sweetener of choice 6 tablespoons beef gelatin Directions In a small bowl mix 1 cup of blueberry juice with gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the juice for a minute or until it gels up. Heat remaining 1 cup of blueberry juice in a saucepan on low heat. You want the juice to be hot but not boiling. Ingredients 1 cup dried organic cranberries, sweetened 1 cup water 3 tablespoons beef gelatin 1/4 cup water, hot Directions Soak 1 cup of dried cranberries with 1 cup of water for at least 1 hour. Blend the soaked cranberries and the water in a food processor or blender. Pour gelatin over the cranberry puree and mix well. Let the gelatin sit in the juice for a minute or until it gels up. Heat 1/4 cup of water in a saucepan on low heat. You want the water to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot water over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Pour into molds or into a 5×7 inch pyrex pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 18. Orange Creamsicle Gummy Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 2 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed juice (I tested with orange juice and cherry juice) 1/2 cup coconut cream or whole cream 1 cup honcey or sweetener of choice 1/2 cup gelatin 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon vanilla Directions Heat juice and cream over medium heat in a medium size saucepan. Pour gelatin over liquid. Whisk gelatin into mixture. Add honey and salt and continue to stir until the gelatin dissolves. Bring the mixture to a light boil, stirring constantly. Turn off heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour mixture into a 8×8 square pan. Cover pan and refrigerate until gummy snacks are set, about 2 hours. Cut into small square and store in airtight container. 19. Rainbow Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 4 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 1 cup of strawberry lemonade fruit snack or cherry fruit snack mixture, freshly made 1 cup orange vitamin c fruit snack mixture, freshly made 1 cup super sour lemon fruit snack mixture, freshly made 1 cup super blueberry or grape snack mixture, freshly made Directions Make a 1/2 batch of strawberry lemonade or 1 recipe of cherry fruit snacks. Pour into an 11×7 inch pan. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes. Make a 1/2 batch of orange vitamin c fruit snacks. Pour over cooled strawberry lemonade layer in the 11×7 inch pan. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes. Make a 1/2 batch of super sour lemon fruit snacks. Pour over cooled orange vitamin c fruit snack layer in the 11×7 inch pan. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes. Make a 1/2 batch of grape fruit snacks. Pour over cooled super sour lemon fruit snack layer in the 11×7 inch pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until set. Cut into bite-size squares and store fruit snacks in a closed container in the refrigerator. 20. Cherry Flavored Homemade Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 1 cups of homemade fruit snacks. Ingredients 1 cup cherry juice, divided 3 tablespoons beef gelatin 1/2 cup raw honey pinch of sea salt Directions Sprinkle gelatin over 1/2 cup of cherry juice. Let the gelatin and juice sit for a few minutes while the gelatin absorbs the juice. Heat the remaining 1/2 cup of cherry juice over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Take the juice off the heat and add honey and salt. Mix well and pour over the gelatin mix. Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Pour into molds (if using) or into a 8×8 pan. Refrigerate until the fruit snacks are set, 2-4 hours. 21. Cranberry Orange Gummy Fruit Snacks Makes approximately 3 cups of gummy snacks Ingredients 1 1/2 Cups Cranberry Juice 1/2 Cup Orange Juice 1/2 Cup Raw Honey 1/2 Cup Grass Fed Gelatin Pinch of Sea Salt Directions Sprinkle gelatin over cranberry juice. Let the gelatin and juice sit for a few minutes while the gelatin absorbs the juice. Heat 1/2 cup of orange juice over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Take the juice off the heat and add honey and salt. Mix well and pour over the gelatin mix. Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Pour into molds (if using) or into a 8×8 pan. Refrigerate until the fruit snacks are set, 2-4 hours. 22. Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies Makes 20-24 gummies. Ingredients 1/4 cup water 3 tbs grass-fed gelatin powder 2 tbs lemon juice 3 tbs raw honey 1/2 cup raw apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup water (or apple juice to make sweeter gummies) Directions Mix the gelatin and 1/4 cup water together in a small bowl and let the gelatin expand, or “bloom”. Add the lemon juice and raw honey into the gelatin mixture. Heat the apple cider vinegar and remaining 1/2 cup water (or apple juice) together over low heat. Once the mixture is hot, but not boiling, remove from the heat and mix with the gelatin mixture. Mix until the gelatin dissolves. Pour the gummy mixture into molds and refrigerate until they set, 35-40 minutes. 23. Immune Boosting Elderberry Gummies Makes 12 gummies. Ingredients 2 tablespoons grass-fed gelatin 1/2 cup elderberry syrup (homemade or buy here) 2 tablespoons raw honey 1/3 cup  hot water Directions In a small bowl mix the elderberry syrup with the gelatin. Let the gelatin sit in the water for a minute or until it gels up. Heat 1/3 cup of water in a saucepan on low heat. You want the water to be hot but not boiling. Pour the hot water over the gelatin mixture. Use a whisk and mix the ingredients together. Add the honey and mix until thoroughly combined. While the mixture is still liquid, pour it into molds.
